Have you ever fallen in love? Do you remember what it was like? Your every waking thought is consumed and you cannot wait to be able to embrace this person and share you love and devotion. When you were with your beloved, you felt complete – fully alive.
You were more aware of the world around you because everything reminded you of your beloved. Your love was all-consuming. If affected every aspect of your life. Your relationship with the beloved became part of you and formed the basis of who you are. Christian Discipleship is your relationship with Jesus Christ and is not unlike that which you share with the one with whom you fell in love. When we accept Jesus’ invitation to take up our cross daily and follow him (Luke 9:23) we become his friends (John 15:14-17) and member of his family (Romans 8:15-17). This relationship is a matter of live and love. Our Christian faith is more than agreeing with a set of doctrines or creeds. It is more than outward appearances, signs, and symbols. It’s more than saying “I’m a Christian”. Out Faith is ultimately about what is happening on the inside. It is a heart changed by an encounter with the living God who comes to us in Jesus Christ. The changed heart makes a difference in the way we live our lives in the world. As Christians, we at St. Johns’ want to share the good news of Jesus Christ with you and your Friends. Our mission is simple: To help others to come to love and understand the Grace of God and to welcome Jesus into their lives and hearts. All the time we’ll be adding to heaven…. One friend at a time.
Matthew 28: 18-20
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on Earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Persons wishing to become members of St. John's are invited to attend "Coffee with the Pastors," scheduled 3 times during the year. This session helps the prospective member get better acquainted with the pastors and the church, and to learn what it means to be a member of St. John's. This is followed up with 2 workshops on church life, faith discussions, the vision & values of St. John's, and the principles and foundations of the United Methodist Church.
